Not all good things in life carry the gloss

As I ranted over and over, I am not a big fan of glossy laptop screens at all and I know I am not alone. If you have no idea what this is about, check out the picture in this report. After years of nonsense, however, at least one manufacturer is heeding the voice of consumers. There is speculation that Apple will re-introduce matte (anti-glare) screens to its mainstream 13- and 15-inch portables.
Apple made a bold move roughly two years ago to begin transitioning its entire Mac product line away from matte displays and towards glass-enclosed glossy ones, but the company may be nearing a concession that these shiny, highly-reflective screens may not be for everyone.
… Not everyone was thrilled with the move [to glossy screens], especially those members of Apple’s core professional video and image editing communities, who argued that the glossy displays tend to complicate color matching. Others are indifferent to this effect, but just can’t stomach the glare given off by the glossy screens. Some are road warriors who take their notebooks on different assignments each day, and sometimes find themselves at sunny sporting events, unable to escape the reflective properties of the screens.

I really hope this eventuates. And if Apple is the only major computer manufacturer to reverse the nonsensical trend, it will make its products that much more appealing.
I must say I’m sceptical about my other major rant, though. Lenovo will never put the Control key where it should be, although it’s really IBM’s fault. But I am willing to try out some workarounds just because I have to use on a daily basis laptops that suffer from this particular design defect in the keyboard. And if I find time to reflect on the experiment, that just might turn into another blog post.
